You may wanna know

Caro Quirán is a writer with a master’s degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, Austria. She studied journalism at the University of Cauca in Colombia. Later she studied screenwriting in Barcelona, Spain.

She calls her work ARTivism, often combining themes such as migration, colonisation and elements of her research on one of her passions: native languages and the secret codes of language. Her work can take form in digital media, photography, text or a hybrid of all of these. Her personal and collective experiences and family memories are often the inspiration for her artworks, workshops, artistic activities and rituals connecting with the deity within.

She is co-founder of the Vienna-based Latin American women’s collective Trenza, which consists of artists, activists and researchers who take the South beyond geographical borders.

She lives between her hometown Popayán and Vienna, but is basically nomadic in every sense of the word. She is a bit of a pirate, a bit of a ninja, a bit of a mushroom.
